Position Summary:

Movement Politics is an innovative way of looking at elections as opportunities to build people power and dramatically transform our economic and political system to one that puts people ahead of corporations and the 1%. Reporting to the Director of Movement Politics, the Field Director will recruit, develop and lead teams of volunteer leaders who will engage voters in the 2018 election. Field organizers will be the front line of our effort to recruit and develop these leaders and will be play a key role in our goals to 1) investment in leadership development, 2) activate, 3) train, and 4) deploy 4,000 new volunteers and volunteer leaders. In the early stages of working in this position, organizers will periodically spend time canvassing in the field.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Direct and manage day-to-day activities of four organizers who are responsible for identifying and activating volunteers
  • Create processes and metrics that will hold organizers accountable for completing goals in a timely and well-executed fashion.
  • Lead various trainings on a regular basis: organizational orientation, strategy and leadership skills, tactics

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • A high degree of emotional intelligence and desire to prioritize racial and economic justice in decision-making
  • Skilled project manager
  • Serious about achieving quantitative and qualitative goals
  • Passionate for developing the leadership of volunteer leaders
  • Knowledge of (or willing to learn) principles of community and electoral organizing and advocacy strategies
  • Ability to perform with a high degree of skill in a fast-paced work environment
  • Highly organized and meets deadlines
  • Familiar with database management, data reporting systems, and computer programs (VAN, Microsoft, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Docs)
  • Some positions may require Spanish fluency

Previous Life and/or Educational Experiences (* notes which are preferred, but not required):

  • 2+ years of paid or volunteer electoral or community organizing experience
  • Experience managing and supervising a team
  • Bachelor’s degree (Social sciences, Social Work, Business, Non-profit management, or related field) *

Working Conditions:

  • Office & field environment with moderate amounts of standing, walking, climbing stairs, ability to lift 25 lbs
  • Normal business hours, some additional hours required with frequent Saturday activities
  • Positions are available in Detroit and Grand Rapids

Salary:

  • Pay: $3,640/month
  • Moving expenses negotiable
  • Benefits: Health care after 3 months on staff, phone and travel stipends
