Community Political Organizers

Locations: Detroit, Kalamazoo, Flint, Grand Rapids

Salary Ranges:

  • Full time organizers: $35,000 - $43,000, depending on experience

Job Summary 

2020 will be one of the most important elections in our state’s history. Community political organizers are working to ensure that everyone is able to have their

voice heard at the polls on election day. Organizers will work primarily with those that have been most marginalized by the political process. Our goal is not just to encourage voting, but to build the capacity of these communities to win change in their lives after the election through community organizing. 

 
Election Phone Banker

Locations: Michigan

Part-Time, Temporary

Compensation: $15/hour. Phone, internet, and health insurance stipend.

DURING THE CORONAVIRUS, THIS POSITION IS WORK-FROM-HOME AND PHONE CANVASSING

Job Summary 

Michigan United is looking for phone canvassers to participate in a civic engagement program focusing on immigration, health care, race, class, and the 2020 elections. 

Phone canvassers will work from home, and call voters throughout the state. Canvassers will discuss important community and political issues with voters, encourage them to register to vote, to apply to vote by mail, vote early or to vote on election day. Canvassers will be contacting voters in cities, suburbs, and small towns & rural areas. There will be opportunities for promotion to canvass lead or other leadership positions. 

This position has a workweek that includes Saturday mornings and afternoons, and weekday afternoons and evenings. Phone canvassers are expected to work 3-5 days per week. Hours and workdays may fluctuate based on weather and progress towards goals.

Phone Bank Volunteer Coordinator

Locations: Michigan 

Full-time, Temporary

Remote and requires reliable access to internet

Compensation: $40,000 annual equivalent. Internet and phone stipend, Health Insurance, paid sick time, and HSA Salary Range: $40,000

Job Summary 

Michigan United is looking for a volunteer coordinator to organize the hundreds of volunteers who have signed up to help with our GOTV phone and text bank programs. This position will require volunteer training and management, following-up with leads, and coordinating with other departments. This position has a termination date of November 13th.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • Following up with volunteer leads from various departments 

  • Training and debriefing with volunteers 

  • Manage volunteer shifts by scheduling volunteers, tracking data, and reporting regularly 

  • Work closely with staff and volunteers to meet goals and deliverables 

Training Organizer

Part-Time

Salary Range: $20,000

The position is considered part-time, temporary; the position is funded through Dec. 4th, 2020.

Benefits:

  • Stipends: Transportation stipend of $37.50 a month and cell phone stipend of $25 a month. A company phone is available if you prefer it to the stipend. 

  • Paid Time Off: 60 hours for the first and second year of employment which begins accruing on your start date.  Paid time off cannot be taken within the first 90 days.

    • Emergency Time Off: 14 days. Expires when the public health crisis of Covid19 subsides.

  • Holidays: 11 paid holidays.

Job Summary

The Training organizer will work closely with the Training Director and training team to oversee all staff, members, and political training of the organization. This person will help develop and execute digital training strategies for our campaigns, including immigration reform, environmental justice, criminal justice reform, small-town and rural organizing, and family care.

Voter Registration Phonebaker

Locations: Remote, requires reliable access to the internet

Job Summary

Michigan United is looking for phone bankers to participate in a civic engagement program focusing on registering Michigan citizens to register to vote. Phone bankers will be using their phone and computers to reach out to likely unregistered voters. Phone Bankers will need to demonstrate skills in active listening, creating moments of empathy, and the ability to engage in potentially difficult conversations about voting with people who may disagree without arguing.

Civil Rights & Election Protection Coordinator

Locations: Remote, requires reliable access to the internet 

Full-time & Temporary

Compensation: $49,000 annual equivalent, Health care, Health savings account, IRA retirement savings when the threshold has been met, paid time off, two-month paid sabbatical after four years of service, phone, and travel stipends. This position is considered full-time exempt. It is funded through mid-November 2020.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Michigan United staff are currently working entirely remote. We anticipate this will be the case for the foreseeable future. The Coordinator should be prepared for in-person work on Election Day. Personal protective equipment will be provided and distancing policies will be required on Election Day. 

The Civil Rights & Election Protection Coordinator will work closely with the Movement Politics team to protect the right of community members to vote. This will include the following projects: 

-Overseeing communications plans to voters regarding vote-by-mail, early-vote, and other voting procedures. 

-Recruiting and coordinating volunteer civil rights monitors to oversee polls on Election Day. 

-Recruiting and coordinating volunteer translators on Election Day-to-day. 

-Recruiting residents to work for the Detroit City Clerk on Election Day at polling locations or counting absentee ballots. 

-Coordinate with the legal team to identify and resolve all voting issues.
