Thousands of immigration and refugee advocates from across the country will gathered in Detroit Sunday to participate in the 12th Annual "New American Dreams" National Immigrant Integration Conference (NIIC2019). The three-day event is a time for organizing, dialogue, and planning solid responses to the Trump administration’s vicious attacks against immigrants, refugees, and Muslim communities.

Michigan Lt. Governor Garlin Gilchrist welcomed conference-goers including Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich), a featured speakers at the “Our Justice Journey: Celebrating Women’s Leadership” panel. The conversation that explored the gains made by women in the political arena and the significance to the immigrant and refugee community.

“This conference brings many voices and key players together from all corners of the country focused on one same goal: justice for our immigrant and refugee communities,” said Nancy Flores, Deputy Director for the National Partnership for New Americans (NPNA). “It also celebrates the victories made by our movement. It’s been an unrelenting fight against the unfair policies of this administration, and the fact that we are still standing and with renewed confidence, sends a clear message that together we will achieve the dream.”

The "New American Dreams" platform is the conference’s centerpiece – a comprehensive and successful plan of federal, state, and local actions to protect immigrants and refugees. The various components and contexts of this platform will be part of over 45 plenaries and workshops offered during the conference.
