Michigan United Movement Politics Director recognized for bringing people together

In its most recent edition, Crain’s Detroit magazine honored Michigan United’s Director of Movement Politics, Roland Leggett with its annual Notable LGBTQ in Business award. Recipients are change agents, door-openers, and role models according to their peers and colleagues.

The article cites the chair of the Detroit Board of Water Commissioner, Michael Einheuser who describes Leggett as a national movement leader who is exceptionally skilled at strategic thinking and campaign execution.

Leggett joined the Michigan United team after serving as regional political director of the Biden/Harris presidential campaign. He was also president of Detroit’s Human Rights Commission and vice-chair of the Ruth Ellis Center Board.

“Diversity is a strength in any organization. That’s especially true at Michigan United,” said executive director, Ken Whittaker. “Roland’s life experiences make him especially adept at understanding how all of our identities intersect and interact. That’s key to bringing people together to build the power we need to fight for our communities.”
