Tough Conversations Training: Transformative Listening to Win Hearts & Minds
On line or by phone
Please join us on Thursday for a Michigan United webinar training to equip people to have tough, but transformative conversations with their family or community members as part of our Michigan Hometown Voices listening campaign.
Our core team worked really hard on taking our learnings from the listening sessions, tables, and the deep canvass last year and condensing them into this 1.5 hour training. It's going to be fun, exciting, and chock full of insight!!
Tough Conversations Training:
Transformative Listening to Win Hearts & Minds
Thursday, March 5th, 2020
Two times: 12:30-2:00pm & 6:00-7:30pm
We have two pieces of homework to help participants really get the most out or the training. If you could take 30 minutes to start these two homework items, it will really enrich the training for you!
1) Begin to draft your immigration and struggle stories that you will share with people. CLICK HERE to download the Story Building Worksheet to help guide you through the process. If you don't know any undocumented immigrants, you can CLICK HERE to see an example of one story.
2) CLICK HERE to download the Race-Class Narrative and begin to study it. The exact wording and method we use is actually proven with research to be the most compelling way to invite all people, from different political and racial groups, to come together. The race-class narrative is the only time we present our political ideas or beliefs during tough conversations. We try not to "preach" too much, but when we do, we make sure that it
explicitly names race and class
invites all people to join us in organizing for a better world, and
names the culprits that are creating the inequality in our society.
Most of our members have memorized this race-class narrative to help them make sure they hit all the points in conversations.
You can join the training either by phone or online
